Apple and Raisin Crispy Topped Crumble

This scrumptious apple crumble has a crunchy and crispy topping, with an apple and sultana filling - perfect for a cosy night in!



Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes @ 190C/170 fan/gas 5.

Medium Recipe

Serves 6



Ingredients for the filling:

3 Bramley apples, peels and cored;

4tbsp golden caster sugar;

100g sultanas


Ingredients for the crumble:

180g sieved plain flour;

120g golden caster sugar;

120g softened unsalted butter;

1tbsp rolled oats;

1tbsp golden caster sugar;

Double cream, clotted cream, whipped cream, and/or ice-cream to serve



Recipe for the filling:

1. Heat the oven to 190C/170 fan/gas 5.


2. Toss 3 bramley apples with 4 tbsp golden caster sugar into a saucepan with boiling water in. Boil for 3 minutes and drain the water from the apples.


3. Place the apples and 100g sultanas in a 23cm round baking dish at least 5cm deep, or a 20cm square dish


Recipe for the crumble:


4. In a bowl blend together 180g sieved plain flour; 120g golden caster sugar; 120g softened unsalted butter until bread crumbs are made. With the breadcrumbs, lay out on a baking tray and place in the oven at 190C/170 fan/gas 5 for 15 minutes.


5. Take the golden breadcrumbs and sprinkle on top of the apples and sultanas until all of the area of covered. For the topping, sprinkle 1tbsp rolled oats and 1tbsp golden caster sugar on top and place in the oven at 190C/170 fan/gas 5 for 30 minutes.


6. Take out the oven and serve with double cream, clotted cream, whipped cream and/or ice cream.
